A Brief History of Timba-Wolf.... Back in 1996 when i actually founded the company, i was already self employed, having been replaced by the scientific breakthrough known as a computer, along with numerous others in the late 1980's. So when the opportunity arose to start a small Joinery company, well i took it!. And since that day, i have steadily built up the business to what it is capable of today! With investment as and when funds allowed it, i have purchased new larger and better quality machinery, along with numerous hand tools and tooling, from modern items, to the more traditional pieces, some actually dating back to the early 1910's which are ALL used on their particular merit.. i have also built a new workshop, slightly larger than the previous one, giving me a bit more space for those larger projects which has allowed me to incorperate a long bed lathe, so as to allow Turnery to be conducted in the workshop giving me the ability and flexibility to be able to produce spindles and newel post replica's, long since deleted from stocks, along with bowls, vases, platters etc to customers exacting requirements! So be it a bowl or vase, spindle or newel post, door or window even a piece of custom furniture, it can be manufactured here with the love and care for the timber involved......
So why "Timba-Wolf".... Well the answer to that question is easy.I wanted a name for my company which is related or can be related to Timber, and whilst thinking about various names, i happened to allow my mind to drift off in the direction of my most admired creature, the wolf, or to be precise, the Timber Wolf!... and as the saying goes the rest is history..... Well, not quite..... As many people say my mind works in mysterious ways(my wife Shirley being one of them!) and i was debating the name, because there are quite a few companies out there which use the word TIMBER in their names, so i changed the "ER" to an "A", and while still thinking along the lines of having the word WOLF incorporated into it, i began thinking about the Timber wolf, a creature "dogged" by bad press, mis-conceptions and urban myths, all of which are totally incorrect and completely unfounded...As the Timber wolf is actually known for being a monogamous creature, mating for life as well as being dedicated to the pack or Company as it is called. And it is these traits, that make it known in the wildlife and research study group circles for their LOYALTY and HONESTY , and it is these particular traits to which i try and incorporate into my own "company"..Loyalty to customers and Honesty with any problems or prices that might occur, and more over honesty and loyalty to the use of mother natures timber....
And why wood?....wood, or timber as i seem to prefer to call it; is the other passion in my life, it has been around since time began, and survives with out the intervention of man, however, it's use in our world has been on going since the humble caveman, used it as fuel, for making weapons, up to building homes and ships so as to explore our world with. But to me timber has a style and grace all of its own, each and every tree is different, yet when one is felled , and you look at it's properties, it has a texture, all of it's own, from the bark, to the configuration of and within the grain, to it's unique colour changes as it dries. Each and every spieces is different, but when one starts to work the freshly cut timber , the aroma that assualts the nostrils is to me , just totally wonderful.!!.. it is so useful, in terms of what we can make from it, even the smallest piece can and is used within my workshop. and when each project is complete, be it a simple bowl, or a piece of furniture, it is then treated to other items of natures incredible larder of gifts, namely natural oils and waxes, to enhance and finish the piece... To me there really is nothing like the feel , aroma and the warmth of timber, and to be able to work with timber on a daily basis, is well the perfect profession for which i am very lucky................................... and i absolutely love it!
